ACADEMIC GUIDELINES AND PROGRAMS

GRADING SCALES  

Regular:  A = 93 – 100%  

                 B = 85 – 92%   

                 C = 75 – 84%  

                 D = 67 – 74%  

                 F = 0 – 66%  

Honors/DE:  A= 90-100%  

                       B = 80 – 89%  

                       C = 70 – 79 %  

                       D = 60 – 69%  

                       F = 0 – 59%  

  

-To be eligible for credit, a final grade of at least a “D” must be earned.    

-No grade lower than D can be earned in the last nine weeks of a course.  

 

CARNEGIE UNITS NEEDED FOR CLASSIFICATION:

LEAP 2025 End-of-Course Exams  

The LEAP 2025 exam is 15% of the overall course grade. Students who earn an ADVANCED or MASTERY rating are considered proficient. A BASIC or APPROACHING BASIC/ rating indicates that the student passed but should study more in this area. UNSATISFACTORY indicates that the student did not pass, and the test must be retaken at a later date.  The following courses require LEAP 2025 exams:  

English I  

English II  

Algebra I  
Geometry  

Biology

HONORS /DUAL ENROLLMENT /CLEP CLASSES  

  • Must be a junior or senior meeting Pre-ACT or ACT requirements. ACT scores will be used if available.    
  • Students must have a 15-sub score, not composite, in English and Math on the ACT with a 2.5 GPA for Dual enrollment courses.   
  • No grade lower than a B in the previous course; teacher recommendations  
  • Some CLEP tests will be part of a course, but students may elect to pay for others.
  • CLEP tests are scheduled by Franklin High School. Visit the college board CLEP website for a listing of available tests and the scores required for specific college settings.

ACT/SAT 

All students are required to take the ACT in their junior year as part of the state-wide accountability program. However, students are encouraged to take the ACT throughout their high school years.

The SAT is another national test that is used for college enrollment and scholarship programs.   

Suggested Testing Guidelines  

9th  

ACT: Once in the Spring. It must be paid for by the student.

10th  

ACT: Once in the Fall and in the Spring – Those wishing to qualify for DE classes in their junior year should check to make sure that they have the scores or retest during this year (see page 10)  

11th  

ACT: Once in the Fall and in March for state testing  
PSAT: Offered in October at FHS - $13 fee  

12th   

ACT: As needed to meet scores for program requirements   

SAT: as needed to meet scores for program requirements
